Super Eagles’ Coach, Stephen Keshi, has revealed why Everton’s
striker, Victor Anichebe, has not been part of his programme in the
national team. Anichebe was not listed in the 30-man squad recently
released for World Cup qualifying matches slated for the months of May
and June.
But Keshi has blamed a lack of communication from the player as the reason for his continued exclusion. Keshi disclosed that several efforts have been made to contact Anichebe, but the player has failed to respond or even answer his calls and those of other officials.
“I made several efforts to discuss with Anichebe but all to no avail and he has even refused to respond to messages left for him on his phone,” Keshi says. “He has refused to pick my calls or even call me. He has also not responded to messages and calls from the team’s secretary, Dayo Enebi.” Keshi, however, insisted that inspite of the situation, the player still remains in his plans.
“Anichebe is a good player who would add value to the Super Eagles’ attack. I need him in the team but I cannot force him to play for his country. “He has to show the zeal to play for Nigeria before we call him to join the Eagles,” Keshi says
