“There is nothing noble in being superior to your
fellow man; true nobility is being superior to your former self.”
― Ernest Hemingway
Artist Muyideen Folorunsho,
(copyright Muyideen Pencils), a final year student of Biology Department at The
Federal University of Technology, Akure, creative and talented with artistry
works.,decorating with pencil to be
precise. "The art of drawing with pencil has been a major part of me since
I was a kid". Painting pictures in the style of realism is what I love to
do, to recreate LIFE as we see and know it, with just simple pencil work,it is exciting to say the
least. "Be the best you can be in whatever you know how to do."―
Artist Muyideen Folorunsho. I make Pencil Art works; Portraits from life or
reference picture, animate and still life drawing. My pencil arty speaks
quality and creativity, so it got me comments and daily compliments like:
"amazing", "fascinating", that's not true",
incredible", "intricate" and so on. I draw pictures with
graphite and lead pencils on coarse paper, canvas, gesso and marble of
different sizes: 10 by 12", 12 by 16"(I call this Arty moderate), 16
by 20"and 20 by 24" and so on. The paper pencil portrait is laminated
with a foreign sticker and then framed with foreign frames, an Italian frame(Heavy)
or german frame (Fibre: to reduce weight for courier and other exporting
services) or glazed. Please note that Glass framing is not in vogue anymore in
modern day arty and photography for durability. I love what I do, I am self
taught and strive for realism in each piece, taking great pleasure in capturing
every fine detail in faces and pictures as a whole. To me drawing is fun, its
about bringing happiness to someones life, I knew this when I was 9, when I
drew Tanny(a friend's dog Pet) and showed it, it was unbelievable when it
started staring at itself in the picture and hopping with joyous groan. Albeit,
I complete a male life portraite in an average time of 20 minutes and female's,
sometimes because of the details in their facial expression, smiles, eyes, lips
and hair movement, takes like 35 minutes and there is still room for
improvement.
The thing is, there is a psychological connection between the artist and the sitter, so any slight movement can affect the quality of the job for most artists, therefore, most often I draw from reference photos because most client can not maintain a posture for even that short period of sketching. I have my artworks in Local Artists studios and Local Art Gallery. I train students, friends, Corp members who show interest in drawing and making professional pencilling as a career, I do tell my students "Practice does not make perfection, it brings time to time improvement"― Artist Muyideen Folorunsho. Weekdays are for booking, job completion(framing and packaging) and delivery while weekends are for drawing and training, with that, I am only able to finish an average of 11 portraits in a weekend. I drew about 40 portraits between February 1st and Valentine's day and all were ladies and clients were guys...Hilarious! I make portraits for babies, and its fun drawing their fat chics and fresh face. “Once we accept our limits, we go beyond them.” ― Albert Einstein. "Time is a factor, spend a second making a mistake with pencils and you have the next minute erasing it, and remember, small eraser comes with the longest conventional pencils and no eraser comes with art pencils, you know why? LILY (art pencils manufacturer, China) expects you to beautify your mistakes...like you knew what you were doing even if you don't." ― Artist Muyideen Folorunsho
